This theatre’s home, a one-time Methodist chapel, was once described as the most beautiful chapel in Methodism. Designed by the important Clonmel architect, William Tinsley, it was built in 1843 in the style of a Greek Temple. Today, the building is home to St Mary’s Choral Society, which performs opera, operatta and musicals. The Theatre is named after the Society’s founder, James White. It has also been a dance hall, a paper store and a food hall for the poor.
