Wexford’s medieval town walls had seven medieval gate towers. Westgate Tower is the only one left, and the only gate tower in Ireland open to visitors. Built in the early 1300s as a tollgate, it has seen 700 years of war, peace and commerce. A heritage centre brings it all to life with an audio-visual show called In Seskar’s Shadow and exhibitions. Other attractions include Norman rooms and a walk along the battlements to Seskar Abbey, which is next door.
