Waterford’s Theatre Royal sets out to challenge and innovate with a varied programme of events, from opera to off-the-wall comedy. Both in-house productions and community-based productions are staged. Current performances include Nyle Wolfe, and Caught In The Net, a popular farce by Ray Cooney. Other events include the annual Light Opera Festival, an international search for the best amateur musical societies. The Theatre is housed in the west wing of Waterford’s City Hall. It was founded in 1876.
