Ireland’s most spectacular long-distance footpath, the Kerry Way is a 133-mile loop taking in lakes, waterfalls, deserted valleys, ancient forests, mountains and cliffs. Starting and ending in Killarney, it runs mostly along old drovers’ and butter roads. It’s a journey into not only one of Europe’s most dramatic landscapes but also one of its most fascinating cultures. Highlights include the Black Valley, the last place in Ireland to get electricity, the Muckross Estate, with its waterfall, yew forest and glassy loughs, and the cliffs and sparkling islands of Kerry’s dazzling Atlantic coastline.
