Swords Castle
River Valley, Swords, County Dublin - Ireland

Map

Swords is an ancient town, and Swords castle has been standing at its centre since the 1200s. The Castle actually comprises a cluster of buildings dating from the 12th to the 16th centuries enclosed by a perimeter wall 305 metres long. Largely ruins since 1324, the buildings are now being restored by Fingal County Council. The castle was built for the first Norman Archbishop of Dublin, John Comyn, and it’s the best preserved of his fortified residences. The Castle has a visitor centre.
