Chief among this Cathedral’s attractions is probably its centuries-old peal of bells - the famous Bells of St Mary’s. The four bells have been calling Limerick residents to worship since the cathedral was built in 1172 by Donal Mor O’Brien, King of Munster. Visitors also come here to see the Cathedral’s pre-reformation stone altar, a Reredos and an ancient west door, now used only on ceremonial occasions. The Cathedral is open to visitors six days a week and it’s also the home of the famous Limerick Cathedral Choir.
