Yeats spent much of his childhood in Sligo and this museum has a collection dedicated to him. Photographs, prints, letters and memorabilia reveal Yeats’ connection to the place he said influenced him the most. His Nobel Prize medal of 1923 is also here. Other Museum collections comprise local artefacts, including geological exhibits, old photographs of Sligo, sketches of Inishmurrary, the ruined monastery, and a 100-year-old keg of bog butter. Countess Markievicz, painter and Heroine of the Easter Rising, is also represented with a collection of artefacts and memorabilia.
