The mills of Skerries were once a model of sustainability, with wind and water turning their massive wheels and sails. Two windmills, a watermill and an industrial museum are now open to visitors. Of them, the most impressive is the Great Windmill of Skerries, with a sail of 20 metres wide and two sets of grinding stones. At 15 metres tall, it also offers far-reaching views. Visitors to Skerries Mills can try their hand at grinding and find out all about the history and mechanics of milling.
