The Collegiate Church of St Nicholas is considered to be one of Ireland’s best-preserved medieval churches. Founded in 1320, it’s dedicated to St Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors, and recent research has shown that the world’s most famous sailor, Columbus, visited the church in 1477 - 15 years before he discovered America. Of note is the unique triple nave, some interesting carvings on the outside windows and gargoyles on the tower. Concerts are held here regularly.
