Ross Castle is one of County Kerry’s busiest attractions. A typical 15th-century towerhouse set next to Lough Leane, it has a fortifield bawn and curtain walls cornered with circular towers. Inside, visitors can see 16th and 17th-century furniture. The Castle was built by the O’Donoghue Ross Chieftains and is a good example of a chieftain’s stronghold. It was one of the last to be taken by Cromwell in the Irish Confederate Wars. Visitors may need to queue to get inside in summer.
