Roscrea Castle’s polygonal curtain walls swallows up the heart of the town. The late 13th-century castle also features two corner towers and a drawbridge. Inside, some castle rooms have exhibitions detailing the building’s history, and the Great Hall is used for events such as concerts. Don’t miss the formal castle garden, planted with Irish roses. The castle is managed by Ireland’s state heritage trust and Roscrea Heritage Society. It has been suggested that the castle was built by King John.
