An intriguing work in progress, Rathfarnham Castle is being restored. As the centuries are pealed away and recreated, visitors can see into the past of a great castle that was once regarded as being among the finest in Ireland. Built probably in 1583, features left by later centuries include 18th-century interiors, Grecian architectural details and a ghost. In 1880, a skeleton was discovered entombed in one of the walls. The remains were of a young woman, and it’s said she still haunts the castle ballroom.
