Poulnabrone is one of Ireland’s most famous and most photographed Dolmens. At only two metres in height it’s actually much smaller than it appears in these photos, but a memorable sight nonetheless. The portal tomb dates from 2500BC, and is made up of a sloping capstone supported by upright stones. An excavation in 1985 uncovered the remains of 16 adults and children and some artefacts including polished stone axe, a bone pendant and arrowheads. Many are now on display in Clare Museum.
