Portraine beach is a 2km stretch of sand with sand dunes behind it. Inaccessible to cars, it’s an excellent walking beach with footpaths taking in the beautiful Rogerstown Estuary. Other attractions include a National Heritage Area to the north of the beach, where large flocks of migrating birds spend the winter. The beach is a popular escape from city life for Dubliners, who don’t have to travel far to get here. Lifeguards patrol the beach during the summer.
