A curvilinear cast-iron glasshouse, 20,000 plant species and the tranquil flood plains of the River Tolka draw visitors to The National Botanic Gardens. The glass Palm House, built in the 1830s, is actually one of the earliest of its kind ever built, predating Kew’s Palm House, which was built by the same architect, Richard Turner. The garden’s other assets include an arboretum, a rose garden, a rockery, and The Last Rose of Summer, taken from a cutting of the actual rose at Jenkinstown House that inspired the famous ballad.
