Muckross House is one of Ireland’s most popular visitor attractions. A Victorian stately home with a setting perhaps unrivalled in Europe, it has drawn visitors from around the world since Queen Victoria first visited in 1861, some 20 years after it was completed. They come to see not only the fine neo-Elizabethan mansion, but also the gardens brimming with the exotic trees and shrubs that thrive in the shadow of Torc mountain; lush lawns sweeping down to the shore of Muckross Lake; and the traditional farms, where rural farming in 1930s Kerry has been recreated.
