A model of the Great Eastern, once the biggest ship in the world, is among this museum’s most popular exhibits. Others include the Bantry Boat, a 38-foot long barge captured during the French invasion of 1796, the Kerlogue, an Irish merchant vessel from World War II, and a naval display, detailing naval history through models, photos, documents and uniforms. The Museum’s home is the 1837 Mariner’s Church, built for seafarers and their families. Look out for the Prisoner’s Docks where ship’s prisoners were guarded while attending the church service.
