Macgillycuddy’s Reeks form a mountain range in Kerry. It has Ireland’s tallest mountains. The tallest of all is Carrantuohill at 1,039 metres. Experienced hikers should be able to reach the top, where they will be rewarded with spectacular views taking in Dingle Bay, the Killarney lakes and the South Kerry Hills. Macgillycuddy’s Reeks take their name from the Clan Macgillicuddy, which in the 18th century owned much of the land hearabouts. The sandstone mountains were carved by glaciers during the last ice age.
