Lynch’s Castle was once the home of Galway’s most powerful family, the Lynches. A tall limestone Gothic building, it’s probably the finest 16th-century town house in Ireland. Although considerably altered when it was converted into a bank in the 1960s, it’s still a fascinating building. Medieval survivals include gargoyles, stonework, the Arms of the Lynch and Fitzgerald families and also of Henry VII. On the ground floor, a display covers the history of the Castle.
