At 118 square kilometres, Lough Derg is Ireland’s third largest lake. The Lough Derg Way hugs its eastern shore for about 20 of its 58 kilometres journey. Much of rest of the Way follows the banks of the majestic River Shannon and the old Shannon Canal. Highlights include lush countryside, forests and spectacular views of Lough Derg from Tountinna in the Arra Mountains. The Lough Derg Way begins in Limerick City and ends in Dromineer, but it can be broken in the middle at Killaloe.
