Knocknashee means Hill of the Fairies, and this atmospheric spot is home to an ancient hill fort. A limestone plateau measuring 700 metres by 320 metres is home to two cairns and the remains of 30 round huts. Stone and earth ramparts enclose them. The hill fort was undiscovered until 1988, when aerial photography revealed it. Other reasons to climb Knocknashee’s steep sides to see it include magnificent views of the Connaught Plains.
