King John’s Castle is one of the Ireland best Norman castles. When the castle was built between 1200 and 1210, its cutting edge design was ahead of its time. You can find out why in the visitor centre, where an exhibition details the castle’s history. Other attractions include a mock medieval courtyard, and the Undercroft to the officers’ quarters, excavated in the 1990s. Walk the battlements to enjoy far-reaching views of Limerick City and then refuel in the Castle pub or restaurant.
