Brian Ború, defeater of the Vikings, ancestor of the O’Brien Clan, and Ireland’s greatest King was born a few miles from Killaloe. The Killaloe Heritage and Brian Ború Centre explores his life and times, which ended almost 1000 years ago. Other exhibitions chart Killaloe’s Celtic and nautical history, the arrival of Christianity and the monastic tradition, and the rise of the River Shannon as a transport system. There’s also a tourist information centre and a craft centre here.
