James Joyce Museum
Joyce Tower, Sandycove, Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin - Ireland

Map

Looking out to sea, the Joyce Tower was first built to defend the coast against Napoleon. Much later, James Joyce briefly stayed here and the tower became the setting for the first chapter of his novel, Ulysses. Today, it’s home to a museum dedicated to the writer, with letters, photographs, first editions and memorabilia among the exhibits. In addition, the Martello Tower itself is little changed since it starred in Ulysses, with gun tower and rooms still intact. Events include readings and anniversary celebrations.
