The Irish Jewish Museum celebrates 150 years of Jewish life in Ireland. Opened by the Irish-born President of Israel, Chaim Herzog, in 1985, the Museum is housed in a well-preserved former Synagogue. Inside, there are paintings, photographs, books and other fascinating artefacts. A highlight is the recreation in the original synagogue kitchen of a turn-of-the-century Sabbath Meal. The area of Portobello, where the Museum is located, was once at the heart of a thriving Jewish community.
