Birds and birdwatchers flock to Inch Island - in winter enough swans and geese arrive to make the island an internationally important habitat for them. Other attractions include a sandy beach and a ruined castle. Inch Castle, the one-time stronghold of the O’Doherty Clan, was built in 1474. It’s now an attractive ruin. Head to the pier at the north of the island for great views of Lough Swilly and Donegal’s remarkable coastline. A causeway connects the island to the mainland.
