On a once barren rock in a sunny bay, between mountains and the sea, Ilnacullin gardens have been thriving for over a century. In 1911, the first shrubs were planted and today there’s 37 acres of them. Designed by English architect and horticulturalist, Harold Peto, the garden is Italian arts and craft in style, with a mix of formal and informal elements. Access to the island is by ferry or water bus from Glengarriff Village.
