Glenstal Abbey has Ireland’s oldest terraced garden. The 17th-century walled garden has a bible garden and a cascade among its other attractions. Nearby there are forests and lakes. All are currently being restored, while the oak forest is being extended. The Abbey itself was built in the 1830s for the Barrington Family, who sold it to the Benedictine Order in 1927. It became an Abbey in 1957. Note that only the gardens are open to visitors.
