The family of Molly Keane, the novelist, once owned these woods and their name, in Irish, means Glen of the Fairies. Today, three marked trails weave through through the forest. Highlights include pockets of ancient oak, wild foxgloves, honeysuckle and primroses, and the Glenshelane River, which meets the Rivers Monavugga and Glenafalla here before flowing into the River Blackwater. Look out for pine martins, fallow deer, badgers and red squirrels. Facilities include a car park and a picnic site.
