Galway Cathedral was the last major stone church to be built in Ireland before concrete became the material of choice. Completed in 1965, it was designed by JJ Robinson, and it’s full of church art from the last 40 or so years. Among the highlights are a stained glass window in the mortuary and a crucifiction mosaic by Patrick Pollen, a beautiful rose window by the painter George Campbell and a series of clerestory windows designed at the end of the 20th century by Ireland’s best stained-glass artists.
