Cork’s famous English Market contributes to the city’s reputation as a foody’s paradise. Some 40 traders supply restaurants and residents alike with an astonishing range of local and imported food. French cheeses, Italian bread and Irish meats and all on offer as well as fresh seafood, fruit and vegetables. Look out for Irish specialities such as hot-buttered eggs, pig’s feet and drisheen, a sort of black pudding. The market itself dates back to 1610 and James I, hence its name, but the current building was finished in 1786.
