Dromore Wood is a 1000-acre nature reserve with a crumbling lakeside castle. O’Brien Castle was built in the 17th century and the diverse landscape all around was designated a National Nature Reserve in 1985. The lakes, flooded meadows, peat fen, woodland, river and reed beds are just some of the habitats giving rise to an incredible diversity of wildlife. The visitor centre is open during the summer and guided tours are available by prior request. Clare Biodiversity Day is held here annually. Activities include woodland walks, boat trips and face painting.
