St Mary’s newly restored church is now the home of the Drogheda Heritage Centre. Inside, an interactive exhibition recounts the town’s action-packed history. In 1649 Cromwell invaded and sacked the town. The Heritage Centre occupies the exact spot where his forces breached the walls, parts of which can still be seen in the churchyard. St Mary’s Church dating from 1807 was built where a Carmelite Monastery once stood. There’s also a coffee shop here.
