A fine riverside amenity, Doorly Park is around 15 minutes walk from Sligo Town Centre. Once a wetland, now a semi-wild landscaped park, it was transformed in the 19th century by Colonel WG Woodmartin. Today, lakes, woodland and wetlands offer great picnicking and walking, with a nature trail taking in the best plantlife, wildlife and views. Highlights include reedbeds, native woodland and magnificent mountain views. The park is named after the late bishop of Elphin, Dr Edward Doorly.
