Letterkenny’s former workhouse is now the place to find out all about County Donegal. The Donegal County Museum occupies two floors of this fine stone building, which was constructed for famine relief in the 1840s. Some 8000 artefacts from five centuries of Donegal’s past are here. Upstairs there’s a permanent display and temporary exhibitions are held downstairs. Highlights include the story of Donegal’s famous railway and megalithic archeological finds. The Museum first opened in 1987. It is open all year.
