Surrounded by the sea on three sides, Doe Castle stands above the beautiful Sheephaven Bay. Built in the 1500s, the castle has a four-storey tower and a square bawn with turrets. It has played a central role in Ireland’s history too. In 1642, Owen Roe O’Neil landed here to lead the Uprising and in the 1690s the MacSweeny’s captured the castle from the English. The Castle is open to the public all year.
