Court tombs are probably the oldest Neolithic structures. There are many in the north of Ireland, but Deerpark Court Tomb is regarded as the finest. Three interlinking chambers, measuring a total of 30 metres, are made from weathered limestone slabs, some one metre tall. The tomb sits on a ridge with views of mountains and the beautiful Lough Gill below. There’s an entrance passage on the monument’s south side. The Tomb is about 2km from the nearest road but well worth the hike.
