Courtown Woods is a 25-hectare wood in the picturesque river valley of the Owenavarro. The wood was once part of the estate of the Earls of Courtown, and planted with oak and ash in 1870. Pockets of this survive today, as well as remnants of the original woodland walks, such as the Lime Walk, the Chestnut Walk and the River Walk. These are now being restored. Early spring is the best time to visit when bluebells blaze across the woodland floor.
