Cork Opera House has been at the centre of cultural life in Cork for over 150 years. Its 1000-seat auditorium, one of the largest in Ireland, is a venue for not only world-class opera, but also ballet, dance, theatre, musicals and family entertainments. Co-productions have drawn on the talents of, among others, Cork City Ballet, Storytellers Theatre Company and the Yew Tree Theatre Company. The first Cork Opera House was built in 1855, but today’s building dates from 1963. It is the only purpose-built opera house in Ireland.
