This 1824 listed gaol is Georgian architecture in Cork at its best. Inside this massive turreted and embattled fortress, the original 19th-century prison has been recreated, with wax models, furnished cells and engaging exhibitions. The prison closed in 1923, but famous residents are remembered including Frank O’Connor, Mary Bowles, Sean McCarthy and Countess Markievicz. The Governor’s House and former 6CK Studio is now home to the Radio Museum Experience, which is dedicated to the local and worldwide impact of Radio.
