In the 18th and 19th centuries Cork was Europe’s most important dairy port, and cork’s butter market grew to be the largest in the world. Cork Butter Museum tells the story of dairying in Ireland from the first medieval bog butter, churned and stored in situ, to the global success of Kerrygold Butter. Exhibits include early butter-making tools, a 1000-year-old keg of butter and displays dedicated to the culture of cows and cattle in Early Ireland and to Kerry’s Butter Roads.
