This 282-seat theatre hosts a varied and colourful programme of events. It includes comedy, drama, ballet, opera, concerts, musicals, children’s shows and contemporary dance. Other attractions include a day-time restaurant, a theatre bar and a gallery. The Civic Theatre was opened in 1999 with the help of South Dublin County Council and a grant from the Department of Art, Heritage, Gaeltacht and Islands. It’s one of the few theatres to have a Loop that amplifies performances via a special frequency for hearing aids.
