Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery

The biggest megalithic cemetery in Europe is a haunting place. Some 60 tombs are here, the oldest older than Newgrange by some 700 years - Newgrange is 5000 years old. Some archeologists have argued that the tombs are even older, preceding the introduction of farming in Ireland. A small visitor centre with information on this ancient place is housed in a restored cottage. The site is managed by the state, and guided tours are held regularly.
