Crawling into Cairn K at Carrowkeel is an unforgettable experience. The passage tomb is at least 5000 years old. It’s one of 14 that make up this remarkable Neolithic cemetery. Set atop a hill with breathtaking views of County Sligo and other Neolithic monuments all around, the area is eerily beautiful. Fourteen cairns at Carrowkeel were excavated in 1911, when fragments of pottery, bone implements and human bones were found. The Cemetery is one of only four of its kind in Ireland.
