Bantry House is one of South-west Ireland’s premier attractions. It rises from 46 acres of terraced gardens full of sub-tropical trees and shrubs warmed by the balmy waters of Bantry Bay. Inside is one of Ireland’s most important collections of tapestries, furniture and art and the French Armada Centre, devoted to Wolf Tone and his doomed 1796 attempt to end British rule, with the help of the French Fleet. Highlights include a model of Surveillante, the french frigate scuttled in Bantry Bay at the time, together with first-hand accounts of the event.
