Ardnamona is a naturalistic 19th-century National Heritage Garden. Sir Arthur Wallace first created the typical Victorian landscape in the 1880s from a wilderness. He used seeds and cuttings from around the world - many from Kathmandu and Peking. By the 1990s, the neglected gardens were threatening to return to wilderness, but they were rescued in 1990, and today, they’re being restored. Trees are probably among the garden’s chief attractions. They include rhododendron trees nearly 20 metres tall, which are in turn dwarfed by Wellingtonias (Sequoiadendron giganteum) from California.
