Aillwee Cave is Ireland’s premier cave open to visitors. They can follow over half a mile of underground passages deep into chasms and caverns. There’s even a massive underground waterfall. In fact, it was glacier melt-water that gouged out these caves in the first place. Water has also helped form the stalactites and stalagmites, which forms when dissolved limestone dries and hardens. The Wasps Nest, Praying Hands and The Carrots are some of the more unusual ones. Other attractions include a gift shop, a café, a farm shop and a garden centre.
